Sport Finance (3 credits)
An exploration of
the many traditional and innovative revenue acquisition methods
available to sport organizations. Along with conventional income
sources such as tax support, ticket sales, concessions and fund
raising, students receive in-depth exposure to more recent
innovations relating to licensing sport products, media sales and
corporate sponsorships.

Sport Law (3 credits)
An overview of
the sport industry, including both amateur and professional sports.
The Constitutional aspects of athletics with special attention
toward procedural and substantive due process, equal protection and
the right to contract. The formation and conditions of contracts
from both the management and individual's perspectives, including
breach of contract by either party. The rights of athletes, coaches
and management according to the ability of each to participate in
the prospective sports' leagues and organizations as evidenced by
current labor law, tort law and the right to represent an athlete.
Strong emphasis on ethical concerns in the sport
industry.

Management of Sport Organizations (3 Credits)
An application of
the general principles of management to the sport industry and to
the management of sport organizations in particular.
This course provides the student with an overview of the sport
industry, as well as the issues encountered by managers of sport
organizations and how management techniques can be applied to
effectively address these issues. Students will also consider
the ethical and moral dilemmas facing sport managers.

The applications
of marketing science to all realms of the sport industry, including:
professional sports; intercollegiate, interscholastic and intramural

international sport business. Ethical issues in sport
marketing.

to the sport industry, growth trends in the industry, and careers in

promotions; athlete representation; sport law; facilities
management; the health club, spa, resort industry; and sport
tourism.

Economics of the Sport Industry (3 credits)
An economic
analysis of the sport industry, with special emphasis on the market
structure and conduct of baseball, football and hockey as played in
the U.S. Topics include: analysis of the work-leisure decisions of
sports fans, trends in the market for sports franchises, players
salaries and their distribution, the competitive balance in sports
leagues, and the impact of sports
stadiums.

Global Sport Facilities Management (3 credits)
This course
examines the real-time history and operations of sports facilities
in the U.S. and throughout the world, largely through the use of the
world wide web. Course content includes the study of planning and
design, services management, marketing and public relations,
concessions, event and operations management, maintenance, funding,
administration and franchise interaction.

This course examines the management of
sport in the emerging global village. Examination of sport as a
cultural phenomenon and a management challenge in differing
political, social and economic systems will be undertaken.

Impact of the Media on the Sport Industry (3 credits)
This course
examines the historical development and provides a general overview
of the sport broadcasting industry with an emphasis on the economics
associated with the differing league strategies and rights
structures. Issues to be examined include growth potential and
limitations of TV and online/interactive media, and the viability of
the marketplace for Women's sports.
