The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies was created in 2003 to raise student
awareness of self-employment as a career option. The Center fosters the
collaboration of faculty, students, alumni and entrepreneurs to engage in
activities and projects that advance hands-on entrepreneurial learning at
the Stillman School. The Center is integral to the Stillman School’s mandate
to prepare students for careers in the 21st century by acknowledging the
growing importance of entrepreneurship in the U.S. and global economy.
Indeed, small businesses are responsible for creating 75% of all new jobs
in the U.S. at a time when big corporations continue to downsize. Today,
one in 11 adult Americans is engaged in entrepreneurial activity and one
in 20 adult Americans invests in fledgling businesses, usually those started
by family and friends. Locally, Inc. magazine recently named the Newark,
N.J. -area ninth on its list of large metropolitan areas that are best for
entrepreneurs.
With its strong focus on academic excellence, the Center promotes professionalism
and integrity in the entrepreneurial arena.
Welcome and thank you for your interest.
